Finance Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a developing Finance Officer to work alongside our finance team at our offices in Newhaven with some hybrid working and flexibility within the working pattern. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Officer is a key member of the finance function with involvement in the preparation of all aspects of both the financial and management accounts for the organisation.

Hours of work between 22.5 hrs – 37 hrs per week, permanent contract
Based Newhaven, with some hybrid working after completing induction
Salary range: £26,511 - £29,856 per annum pro rata, dependent on skills, qualification and previous experience (Upper levels awarded for exceptional/highly experienced candidates)

Duties include:
•    Ensuring all account entries are accurate and correctly allocated according to 
income or expenditure codes, including VAT codes and funds
•    Providing financial evidence for projects with specific reporting requirements
•    Liaising with funders and contractors over grant and contract fee payments
•    Reconciling bank statements and nominal ledgers
•    Processing Gift Aid claims
•    Checking delivery partners’ invoices against project budgets
•    Payroll 
•    Pensions

Key skills / Experience required:
•    Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a finance department
•    Experience of computerised financial accounting packages, ideally QuickBooks
•    Experience of computerised payroll packages, ideally SAGE Payroll, HMRC RTI system
•    Accuracy and close attention to detail
•    Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Understanding and commitment to equal opportunities good practice
