Hastings Philharmonic
The aims of Hastings Philharmonic Choir are to educate the general public in the art and science of music, in particular choral music, by means of study, practice and performance of choral music. Founded as The Town Choir in 1928, today it has 90+ singers. Membership is open to individuals over 18 or organisations who are approved by the Trustees. Applicants for membership must undertake a voice test (audition) with the Musical Director. Some musical knowledge is desirable and a willingness to learn is essential. Members must pay an annual membership fee and 2 hourly rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings between September and June. There are usually three or four concerts with orchestral accompaniment during the year in prestigious venues throughout the town. Classical music concerts are expensive to stage so fundraising is also an important activity.
