RADAR Peer Support Worker

Peer support workers have lived experience of recovery from either: substance misuse, alcohol addiction or new psychoactive substance use, who are ready to work within the RADAR team to support others on their own recovery journey.

By creating a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment people can express themselves freely, engage in activities, get support, meet other people, develop their own goals and strategies and ultimately steer their own recovery and self-management.

Job Title:     Peer Support Worker

Responsible to:        Service Co-ordinator

Hours:             21 PER WEEK
Annual Salary: £11,698
Holidays:         FTE 25 days per year + statutory days (pro rata for part time)
Pension:          4% employee + 4% employer contributions (8%) 
Funding:         Fixed term ending 31st July 2024

Key Activities

•    Ensure all clients are assessed
•    Maintain digital client records
•    Casework assigned clients, ensuring appropriate communication, action and follow up is implemented and communicated.
•    facilitate recovery support groups, Interactive art or creative sessions or activities such as sports or exercise
•    provide face to face support discussing their concerns, progress or other interests
•    encourage people to use the groups or services that may support them in their journey
•    make appropriate referrals with client consent
•    provide moral support or advocacy when liaising with others
•    facilitate social or communal events
•    represent Seaview services or clients at recovery events
•    work collaboratively with partner agencies
•    share safeguarding alerts and risk data in line with inter agency data sharing protocol, Caldecott’s principles and GDPR

Person Specification

•    be out of recovery treatment for 12 months?
•    be friendly and approachable and be able to maintain a professional and compassionate approach
•    be able to follow policies and procedure and understand the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding
•    be able to maintain professional boundaries with clients and contribute to effective teamwork 
•    have resilience and the ability to reflect on our own impact and be honest about your own needs; some of the clients experiences might feel very close to your own which can be emotionally challenging, so it is important to be able to acknowledge this in order to maintain your own health and wellbeing and the clients
•    have an understanding of the barriers preventing people from recovery or accessing services and support
•    Knowledge or willingness to learn about harm reduction and the cycle of change
•    Understanding of client confidentiality and GDPR

General Terms of Reference

•    You will seek to improve personal performance, contribution, knowledge and skills.
•    You will participate in appraisal, training and supervision processes.
•    You will keep abreast of developments in services and practice relevant to the client group.
•    You will keep the Service Co-ordinator fully apprised of all progress and concerns.
•    You will contribute to maintaining safe systems of work and a safe environment.
•    You will, as part of the generic team approach, be prepared to work in other areas of Seaview Project as required.
